Job Description:
Weyerhaeuser's Advocacy and Philanthropy team works to shape
policy at all levels of government and oversees the company's
Giving Fund and other philanthropic programs. Our team engages with
elected officials and stakeholders to be part of the solution to
key public policy issues. We also lead efforts to align
Weyerhaeuser's external policy priorities and objectives in ways
that strengthen our business units. We support Weyerhaeuser's
operating areas by making grants from our Giving Fund, implementing
our THRIVE program to strengthen rural communities and partnering
with workforce development organizations. We are seeking a summer
intern who is passionate about government relations and policy or
community relations and corporate philanthropy. Our summer intern
will have experience in each of these functions. Our ideal
candidate has excellent interpersonal skills, loves working with a
dynamic team, is skilled at juggling priorities, and is an
outstanding communicator. A demonstrated interest in forestry or
the forest products industry is helpful. Someone who is fascinated
by the political process, eager to learn the intricacies of
policymaking and the potential impacts on our company, eager to
help us support our communities and nonprofit partners and willing
to grow with a team of professionals will succeed in this role. We
will depend on our intern to be responsible, reliable, quick, and
accurate, and be a team-player with a can-do attitude and
willingness to help on a variety of projects and assignments. This
position will work remotely and travel, as needed, to Weyerhaeuser
locations and state legislative, regulatory or congressional
meetings, provided you are currently based (or are planning to move
to) one of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona,
California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan,
Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South
Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia. This
role is not open to those who live in other states or countries.
Weyerhaeuser will provide you with a laptop, desk phone and
monitors to set up your home office as needed. This internship is
from mid-June to early or mid-August; intern is expected to work
30-35 hours per week. The position will report to the Head of
Federal Government Affairs and will support other members of the
Advocacy and Philanthropy team. Responsibilities: Conducts
research, analyzes proposed policy (both legislative and
regulatory) and monitors policy development on issues of importance
to the company Conducts research to support philanthropic programs;
helps identify key partners Helps prioritize community needs to
determine giving strategies Monitors legislative meetings/public
hearings and circulating meeting notes Generates briefing materials
regarding policy and legislation Drafts periodic government affairs
reports and shares them internally (both verbal and written); helps
create advocacy materials Researches and analyzes potential grant
opportunities for Weyerhaeuser communities Assists with the
management and solicitation efforts for Weyerhaeuser Political
Action Committee (WPAC) and helps facilitate and staff WPAC events
Provides miscellaneous support to regional and federal team, as
needed With a Weyerhaeuser team member, engages with Congressional
or state legislative elected officials on key issues Represents
Weyerhaeuser at meetings at federal, state and local levels Attends
trade association meetings and takes meeting notes Pursuing a
bachelor's or master's degree in political science, public policy,
communications, business, forestry, natural resources or related;
preferred rising junior level or higher Excellent verbal and
written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills Ability to
work within a team environment while contributing individually High
level of initiative and motivation High level of integrity around
confidential and proprietary information Excellent planning and
organizational skills with attention to detail Ability to read and
summarize legislation and proposed regulations Preferred: Knowledge
of the political process Technically savvy, with expertise with
Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Comfort with virtual communication and collaboration tools Must
pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check Eligible to

consideration Compensation: We are targeting a pay range of $23 -
$26 per hour based on your level of skills, qualifications and
